On Wednesday morning when we came in - we were happy to see Anna still off of the CPAP - yay! She was however back under the lights- being a beach babe - the help keep her bilirubin levels down.
We sat down for a visit with Anna's pediatric doctor; who went over everything with Anna. What are potential causes of her small size?
1. Infection. They did blood testing for CMV and it was negative. They also want to check her eyes for viral infection just to rule it out.
2. Placenta. It is a possibility that the placenta was not working well. It was sent to pathology after her birth - so we are awaiting results from them. This is less likely as her head is symmetrical to her body. Generally if it is a problem with the placenta - the head is larger in comparison to the body.
3. Genetics. A possible genetic syndrome - in which we are awaiting results from micro-array.

The Dr also put an order in to get a PICC line for Anna. Her oral feedings are continuing to increase but her belly is not ready to receive all that she needs orally - so she is receiving the rest through an IV. A PICC line will last about a month whereas an IV only lasts 1-2 days so they keep having to find a new spot for it.
Being born at 1.2kg - Anna was quite small. Likely, she will need to be 2.5kg or larger to go home. Her expected length of stay is 4 weeks at Mac, before they consider transfer to Guelph or Kitchener.
Lorissa was able to have some snuggle time with Anna before she had a busy afternoon of tests!
The ophthalmologist came to have a look at her eyes. There was no sign of a viral infection in her eyes. He will recheck in 2 weeks.
She also had a spinal ultrasound and skeletal survey done as she has a small cyst on her spine and they also find her hips to be tight so they are checking joint wellness. From the results of this - the Dr and neurologist have ordered an MRI.
In all this - we rest in the assurance that the Lord has created her just the way he wants her to be.
We headed out around 5pm to go visit with our "Big Kids!" They were very excited to spend a bit of time with mom and dad.

"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through him and for him."
